Oakdale, Minnesota
Animal Emergency Clinic (AEC) has been providing urgent and emergency veterinary medical care for 30 years in St. Paul, and for the last 10 years in Oakdale. The new Oakdale clinic, just opened in January of 2010, is a 24 hr. emergency, urgent care and specialty practice.
No one at the clinic today can remember a time when Pacesetter Medical Imaging (PMI) was not their go-to partner for x-ray equipment and service. When the time came 5 years ago to look at converting from film & processor x-ray to digital, the natural choice to guide them through the process was PMI. AEC did their due diligence of course, and looked at all the alternatives in vendors and equipment, but that search led them right back to Pacesetter.
Moving to digital was never in doubt. “Speed is even more critical in an emergency environment like ours,” says Radiology Safety Officer, Bobbi Jo Burkett, “and there’s just no comparison between film and digital x-ray when it comes to speed and accuracy.”
The other huge advantage to digital imaging and the systems PMI installed for AEC is the ability to view and manipulate x-ray images through a web browser. According to AEC’s Medical Director, Karen Reynhout, “Now every x-ray can be reviewed by a certified radiologist or the primary care veterinarian, from any location and regardless of their own systems. This is a huge benefit that we are able to provide.”
Digital just makes sense, and Pacesetter Medical Imaging makes sense of digital. “PMI has always taken very good care of us,” says Hospital Administrator, Linda Spengler. “They’re very responsive and great at finding the best fit for both our medical and budgetary needs.”
Another advantage, per Ms. Burkett – “PMI brings a lot of remote capability to the table. They’re able to solve most problems without an on-site call, which saves everyone time and money.”
The clinic move was a perfect example of Pacesetter planning and performance. “Our move was fast and successful – completed in just 10 hours – great planning and execution by PMI with a lot of creative thought in advance,” says Linda Spengler. “We were still able to see patients throughout with no interruption of service—something very critical for a 24 hr. emergency and urgent care hospital.”
Currently, Animal Emergency Clinic is planning with Pacesetter for an upgrade to their imaging software and PACS capacity. After 5 years it’s time. And would AEC recommend PMI to others? According to Ms. Spengler, “We would and we have, many times. Quite a few veterinary clinics have undertaken digital x-ray conversions with PMI based on our referrals.”

Minnesota
From his clinic in Coon Rapids, MN, veterinarian doctor Norb Epping has served the neighborhood’s animals and their owners for some 40 years. When he and son, Jay Epping, expanded their practice to Blaine, MN about 10 years ago they called on area leader Pacesetter Medical Imaging (PMI) to plan and install their x-ray facilities.
Four years ago the Eppings made the logical conversion to digital imaging and again called on their partners at PMI to handle the job. According to Jay Epping, “We obviously gave the project a lot of thought. We considered and consulted with others, but in the end it was Pacesetter with their service advantage that gave us the most confidence.”
PMI worked with the Eppings with an eye on the future, selecting the perfect fit of equipment for today, while insuring that current servers and other key components would be able to accommodate future expansion plans.
“They were very easy to work with in coming up with something that best fit our needs,” according to Dr. Jay. “I would absolutely recommend them to anyone else looking for a solid partner in veterinary x-ray imaging.”
